Dr. Kyle Nash, Principal investigatoR
Dr. Nash is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Arts, at the University of Alberta. Previously, he held a Lecturer position (equivalent to Assistant Professor) in the Department of Psychology at the University of Canterbury (2015-2017). He was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Bern and the University of Basel in the Social Neuroscience lab of Dr. Daria Knoch (2012-2015). He received his PhD in 2012 in Social Psychology and a Neuroscience graduate diploma at York University under the supervision of Dr. Ian McGregor. He received his BA (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Manitoba in 2006.
david simpson, phd Student
David is a PhD student at the University of Alberta. He finished a BA in psychology at Douglas College, and he went on to earn an MA in philosophy at Georgia State University under the supervision of Eddy Nahmias and Eyal Aharoni. His areas of research are confirmation bias, psychology of religion, and moral psychology.
Tamari Shalamberidze, phd Student
Tamari is a third-year PhD student in the Neuroscience and Mental Health Institute, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, at the University of Alberta. She uses electroencephalography (EEG) to investigate brain rhythms related to anxiety and memory processes. Tamari received her MSc at the Ilia State University in Tbilisi, Georgia (2018), where she studied sleep structure in adolescence, using Polysomnography (PSG). She completed her Medical Doctor degree at the Tbilisi State Medical University (2015).
Anjelo QuiTO, Lab Coordinator
Anjelo is the lab's EEG manager who graduated with his BSc (Hons.) Degree in Psychology from the University of Alberta. His research interests lie in social cognitive psychology and neuroscience. Specifically, he is interested in how social interactions influence cognitive processes and the interactions between para-social interactions, social cognition, social life, and wellbeing.
AVA arnold, Honors thesis student
Ava is the manager of the NSN Lab and an Honours student in the 4th year of her degree. Her current research is examining how psychopathic traits relate to moral decision-making, and how emotional upregulation can change this association. In the future, Ava hopes to become a clinical forensic psychologist.
Kayla Stalker, Honors thesis student
Kayla is in her third year of a BA (Hons.) Psychology with a Minor in Sociology at the University of Alberta. She is interested in exploring the social identity model of deindividuation effects, specifically focusing on the impact of personality traits and perceived anonymity in online spaces.
James sasso, Honors thesis student
James is a third-year undergraduate student completing his BA (Hons.) in Psychology. He is interested in cognitive dissonance and group influence. He is interested in how these factors affect group decision-making.
Talia Peters, Honours Thesis Student
Talia is a third-year undergraduate student completing her BSc (Hon.) Psychology degree at the University of Alberta. Her primary interest is how attachment styles influence relationships, specifically focusing on the role of matching theory.
Eden rosenblum, honors thesis student
Eden is a fourth-year undergraduate student completing a BSc Hons. at the University of Alberta. Eden's interests in the lab include work on self-esteem, defensive reactions, and self-compassion. Eden is also trained in EEG and has been a dedicated member of the lab since joining in her second year. After graduation, Eden is interested in persuing a graduate degree to continue her research in self-compassion.
Kaitlyn-Rae Tearle, honors thesis student
Kaitlyn is in her third-year of a BA (Hons.) Psychology degree at the University of Alberta. She is interested in the influences that affect moral decision making. Specifically, how distress, conflict, and psychopathology can impact these decisions.
shireen swaleh, Honors thesis student
Shireen is in her third year of an BA (Hons.) Psychology degree at the University of Alberta. She is interested in social identity and self esteem but is hoping to expand more interests.
Jake Gannon, Honors thesis student
Jake is a third-year undergraduate student completing a BSc (Hons.) in Psychology at the University of Alberta. He is interested in examining the impacts of social media use on human psychology and how confirmation bias affects memory recall.
Caitlyn ledohowski, Independent Study Student
Caitlyn is in her fourth year of a BSc (Hons.) in Neuroscience at the University of Alberta. Caitlyn demonstrates an interest in the field of behavioral neuroscience, with a particular focus on exploring the interplay between cognitive and emotional processes.
Aisha Memon, Independent Study STudent
Aisha is in her final year of BA Psychology. She is interested in the role of stressor controllability within gender, and how sensitivity affects decision making. She is looking forward to expanding her interests within social psychology.
Grace Christiansen, Independent Study STudent
Grace is in her final year of a BA in psychology with a minor in sociology. She is an independent study student in the lab working towards a research certificate in psychology. Her project focuses on examining sex and gender differences in a stressor-controllability study.
lachlan campbell, independent study student
Lachlan is in his fourth year of a BA in Psychology with a Minor in Sociology at the University of Alberta, and is working towards a Research Certificate. He is interested in different aspects of morality and mortality, and in learning more about a wide variety of topics in social psychology through his time in the lab.
Andrei Gatchalian, Volunteer
Andrei is in his fourth year of a BA (Hons.) Psychology with a Minor in Sociology at the University of Alberta. He is interested in getting hands-on experience with EEG in the lab. His future career goal is to become an Industrial-Organizational psychologist and obtain his PhD to become a professor.
Reese Thurmeier, Volunteer
Reese is currently completing a BA in Psychology with a Minor in Women & Gender Studies at the University of Alberta. Reese is interested in research surrounding Social, Cognitive Neuroscience, and Clinical Psychology. She is excited to gain experience in a research setting!
Kailey Herner, Volunteer
Kailey is in her fourth year of a BSc in Psychology with a Minor in Biology at the University of Alberta. She is interested in the effects of sleep and anxiety on memory.
praveen prem, Volunteer
Praveen is taking a BSc with a Specialization in Psychology at the University of Alberta. Praveen is broadly interested in decision neuroscience but more towards cognitive biases and applying functional neuroimaging methods to investigate the neural mechanisms behind irrational vs rational decision-making in social/political context.
Samantha boyes, volunteer
Sam is graduating this year from a dual psychology philosophy major in the faculty of arts. She is interested in gaining research experience in the area of social psychology and is looking forward to working in the area of addictions support and studies in the future.
Gurbaksh Jhajj, Volunteer
Gurbaksh is in her third year of a BSc in Psychology at the University of Alberta. Her area of interest is social psychology, specifically how social behaviours can be linked to certain brain areas/functions using EEG.
